CMR stands for "Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road".
The CMR waybill is a contract of carriage and a contract of carriage of goods. Pursuant to Article 2230 of the Civil Law, with the contract of carriage, the carrier undertakes to transfer the items handed over by the consignor for an agreed fee from one place to another specified place, handing them over to the addressee.
Article 5 of the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road (CMR) stipulates that the CMR waybill is signed (a contract of carriage is concluded) by the consignor and the carrier. This article also states that signatures may be printed typographically or replaced with stamps, if this is permitted by the law of the country where the waybill is drawn up.
